KESBANG.COM, JAKARTA – kMelalui sebuah pengajuan paten, divisi Oculus dari Facebook terungkap tengah mengembangkan smartglasses bertenaga Augmented Reality (AR).
Judul dalam pengajuan paten itu tertulis “layar dengan pemindai dua dimensi” dan menempatkan “elemen yang dihasilkan komputer” dengan latar belakang dunia nyata.

Layar tersebut kemungkinan berada di dalam bingkai yang digunakan untuk kacamata dengan cara “menghadirkan media ke mata pengguna.” Penjelasan ini terdengar seperti definisi smartglasses bertenaga AR.

Layar yang dipatenkan tersebut menggunakan teknologi waveguide, yang memungkinkan gelombang cahaya dipandu melalui lensa. Layar tersebut akan dapat menampilkan video dan gambar sementara audio akan ditangani oleh speaker atau headphone.

Mantan analis teknologi Piper Jaffray, Gene Munster, memprediksi Apple meluncurkan smartglasses-nya pada 2019, dan meramalkan bahwa kacamata tersebut akan segera menggantikan popularitas iPhone.

Prediksi tersebut hampir sama dengan apa yang diperkirakan oleh kepala ilmuwan Oculus, Michael Abrash. Dia tidak melihat adanya spesifikasi yang menggantikan smartphone hingga 2022.

CEO Facebook Mark Zuckerberg menyebut VR dan AR adalah platform komputasi besar berikutnya. Hal ini mirip dengan apa yang dilihat CEO Apple Tim Cook tentang keduanya, meskipun Cook tampaknya lebih condong terhadap AR.
