KESBANG.COM, JAKARTA –  Imam Besar Islamic Culture Center of New York, masjid terbesar d New York, asal Bulukumba, Sulawesi Selatan, Shamsi Ali, kini tengah melakukan penggalangan dana untuk membangun pesantren pertama di Amerika.

Melalui situs galang dana Kitabisa.com, dia mengajak umat Islam di Indonesia untuk turut mendukung. Tercatat telah terkumpul dana umat senilai Rp761.044.411 dari 530 orang donatur di laman Kitabisa.com/pesantrenamerika.

Rencananya, pendirian pesantren bernama “Pondok Nusantara Madani USA” itu menempati lahan seluas 7,4 hektare di negara bagian Connecticut.

Dalam keterangan tertulisnya yang diterima di Jakarta, Senin, Imam Shamsi Ali menuturkan pentingnya dukungan untuk mendirikan pusat pendidikan Islam di Amerika.

“Jika bicara pendidikan Islam di USA, masih belum ditemui pusat Pendidikan Islam yang dikelola oleh Muslim Indonesia, padahal terbukti bahwa Muslim Indonesia memiliki warna dakwah yang khas dan unik dari yang disampaikan oleh komunitas Muslim asal Pakistan ataupun dari Timur Tengah. Setelah berkeliling ke beberapa tempat saya menemukan lokasi yang Insya Allah tepat untuk dijadikan pesantren,” ujar Imam Shamsi Ali.

Akan tetapi, keterbatasan waktu untuk bisa membayar biaya pembelian lahan membuat Imam Shamsi berharap kian banyak umat yang turut membantu.

“Setelah berdiskusi dengan land lord (pemilik lahan) kami diberi tenggat waktu untuk melunasi pembelian pada akhir November 2017. Jika tidak lahan ini bisa diambil pihak lain. Untuk itu saya mengajak sahabat-sahabat semua untuk berkenan mendukung pesantren ini,” kata Imam Shamsi Ali.

Adapun biaya yang dibutuhkan untuk pengembangan lahan tersebut mencapai 1 juta dolar AS atau setara Rp13 miliar. Jumlah itu meliputi 750 ribu dolar AS untuk pembelian lahan dan 250 ribu dolar AS untuk pembersihan dan pengembangan lahan.
