Madura – Mahasiswa yang ikut terlibat dalam kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat – Dosen Pulang Kampung di Desa Tanjung, Kecamatan Saronggi, Sumenep-Madura, Jawa Timur, mengajarkan cara melakukan pembibitan mangrove menggunakan eco-polybag dan hormon auksin pada siswa baru Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri (SMPN) 2 Saronggi. Kegiatan yang dilakasanakan pada 20 Juli 2022 ini merupakan bagian dari Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah (MPLS) pada tahun ajaran baru 2022/2023.

Kegiatan pembelajaran dipandu langsung oleh Henricus R. O. Tarigan, Marvella Audriana, Syarafina Zul Qisthi (Departemen Manajemen Sumberdaya Perairan–FPIK), Jessica Desi Pratiwi, Dewi Kumala Retna (Departemen Ilmu dan Teknologi Kelautan–FPIK), dan Robba Fahrisy Darus (program pascasarjana Ilmu Kelautan–FPIK), mahasiswa IPB University yang terlibat dalam program ini. Tim mengawali penjelasan dari fungsi auksin untuk percepatan pertumbuhan akar propagul dan biji mangrove. Tim juga menunjukkan hasil penerapan hormon tersebut secara langsung. Penggunaan diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kelangsungan hidup bibit mangrove dan memperbesar peluang pemenuhan kebutuhan bibit mangrove untuk kegiatan rehabilitasi.

Setelah itu, tim juga menjelaskan fungsi dan manfaat eco-polybag sebagai pengganti polybag plastik (konvensional). Polybag yang dibuat dari anyaman daun lontar ini diharapkan dapat mengurangi limbah plastik saat proses pembibitan dan penanaman di alam. Penggunaan eco-polybag juga dapat meningkatkan tingkat hidup bibit mangrove karena dapat langsung ditanam tanpa mengbongkar media tanamnya.

Selain menjelaskan fungsi dan manfaat dari penggunaan hormon auksin dan eco-polybag, tim mahasiwa dan pokmaswas “Reng Paseser” mengajak siswa dan guru untuk mempraktekkan langsung proses-proses yang dibutuhkan hingga proses penanaman. Praktek secara langsung ini diikuti 117 siswa dan 20 guru dari SMPN 2 Saronggi, Sumenep.

“Dalam praktek pembibitan mangrove, siswa diajarkan menanam dengan inovasi pembibitan menggunakan hormon auksin dan ecopolybag yang disampaikan oleh Mahasiswa FPIK IPB University,” kata Fadel Abu Aufa selaku sekretaris dan ahli mangrove Pokmaswas “Reng Passer”.

Praktek pembibitan mangrove bertempat di Wisata Pantai eKasoghi, Desa Tanjung, Kecamatan Saronggi, Kabupaten Sumenep, Madura. Lokasi praktek yang diinisiasi Pokmaswas “Reng Paseser”, nantinya diharapkan menjadi pusat pembelajaran mangrove di Kabupaten Sumenep.

Kerjasama dengan SMPN 2 Saronggi ini sudah dimulai sejak awal program Dosen Pulang Kampung diinisiasi. Keterlibatan tim dalam kegiatan siswa merupakan salah satu komitmen dalam kampanye-kampanye pelestarian mangrove. Tim meyakini bahwa keberhasilan kegiatan rehabilitasi ekosistem mangrove bergantung pada tingkat keterlibatan masyarakat. Untuk itu, pelibatan sejak dini sangat baik untuk menanamkan rasa cinta terhadap mangrove, terutama para pelajar. Penyadartahuan sejak dini akan pentingnya mangrove diharapkan dapat melahirkan aktor-aktor atau champion muda yang dapat melestarikan lingkungan.

Peleburan mahasiswa dalam kegiatan pengabdian di masyarakat ini dibimbing oleh Dr. Fery Kurniawan (ketua tim), Dr. Luky Adrianto, dan Dr. Yonvitner (anggota tim), dosen MSP-FPIK dan peneliti senior Pusat Kajian Sumberdaya Pesisir dan Lautan (PKSPL), IPB University. Hal ini bertujuan untuk menguatkan peran dan kepekaan mahasiswa sebagai agen perubahan.

Pembelajaran yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa dianggap sangat efektif. Selain pendekatan interaksi yang menarik, mahasiswa memiliki bahasa yang efektif dan mudah dipahami bagi para pelajar sehingga siswa tidak canggung dan aktif. Mengajak anak usia dini dalam melestarikan mangrove adalah salah satu bentuk pendekatan dari Social Ecological Rehabilitation (SER), yang nantinya diharapkan menjadi generasi penerus pemerhati lingkungan sehingga mendukung pembangunan berkelanjutan (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs) 13 dan 14, ungkap Fery Kurniawan

Jesica Desi Pratiwi menyampaikan bahwa kegiatan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi siswa SMPN 2 Saronggi karena mereka dapat mengetahui bagaimana cara pembibitan mangrove yang lebih efisien dan ramah lingkungan, yaitu dengan menggunakan pemberian hormon auksin dan penggunaan eco-polybag yang berbahan dasar daun lontar (siwalan), sehingga melalui kegiatan tersebut dapat menumbuhkan semangat untuk merehabilitasi hutan mangrove yang telah rusak.

Membibitkan mangrove susah-susah gampang, karena butuh diperhatikan dan dirawat, oleh karena itu siswa diberikan pengetahuan dan praktek agar menumbuhkan kecintaan terhadap mangrove, tambah Fery Kurniawan yang saat ini juga sebagai peneliti senior di Pusat Kajian Sumberdaya Pesisir dan Lautan (PKSPL) IPB University.
