Sungguh banyak cerita di balik kota tua yang disucikan itu. Kota Jerusalem atau dalam bahasa Arabnya “Al-Quds” memiliki seribu satu cerita dalam perjalanan sejarahnya. Sejarah yang sangat dibanggakan oleh masing-masing pengikut tiga agama Samawi; Yahudi, Kristen dan Islam.
Kebesaran Jerusalem di mata masyarakat Yahudi karena dianggap tanah leluhur mereka. Mereka merasa bagian dari sejarah Jerusalem berdasarkan nenek moyang, khususnya kebesaran dan kekuatan kerajaan Daud dan putranya Sulaeman (Alaihima solawatullah). Keduanya adalah nabi Allah sekaligus.
Dengan kata lain masyarakat Yahudi dengan Jerusalem terikat oleh ikatan kebesaran sejarah masa lalu. Dalam perjanjian lama juga kita jumpai betapa Daud dan Sulaeman menjadi figur yang sangat menonjol dan dimuliakan. Bahkan seolah melebihi nabi-nabi lainnya seperti Ibrahim, Ishak, Ya’qub, dan lain-lain.
Bagi masyarakat Kristiani kebesaran dan kesucian Jerusalem sejatinya lebih mendasar dan penting. Bagaimana tidak, jika sosok Jesus yang diyakini sebagai figur suci (tuhan atau anak tuhan) itu terlahir dari daerah sekitar Jerusalem.
Artinya bagi umat Kristiani pusat keagamaan mereka sesungguhnya ada di kota Jerusalem. Karena tema utama agama adalah Tuhan. Dan bagi mereka Jesus tidak dipisahkan dari ketuhanan yang mereka yakini. Maka hubungan Jerusalem bagi warga Kristiani adalah ikatan iman.
Bagi umat Islam Jerusalem juga tidak akan bisa dilepaskan dari kedua hal itu. Ikatan sejarah sekaligus ikatan iman. Artinya Jerusalem bagi umat Islam menjadi kota yang mengikat dalam perjalanan sejarah umat ini, sekaligus menjadi kota yang menghunjam ke dalam sanubari jiwa mereka yang beriman.
Hubungan masyarakat Muslim dengan Jerusalem itu dalam sejarah seiring dengan hijrahnya nabi Ibrahim (AS) bersama isterinya Sarah dan Hajar dari Babilonia ke kota itu. Sejak itu sejarah mencatat hubungan masyarakat Muslim dengan kota ini. Sebab dari Ibrahim itulah ikatan sejarah berlanjut ke Ishak, Ya’qub, Yusuf, hingga ke Daud, Selaeman, Yahya dan Isa (Alaihim sholawatullah). Ikatan sejarah ini kemudian direkam secara jelas dan pasti dalam kitab suci orang beriman, Al-Qur’an.
Tapi bagi masyarakat Muslim ikatan sejarah bukan segala-galanya. Hal ini kita sebutkan untuk sekedar menyampaikan bahwa jika ada umat lain yang begitu gigih mempertahankan Jerusalem karena ikatan sejarah itu maka orang-orang Islam juga punya hal yang sama. Bahkan lebih karena ikatan sejarah umat ini menurun ke perjalanan sejarah yang dipegangi juga oleh warga Kristiani. Orang-orang Islam meyakini Jesus sebagai sosok keagamaan yang agung (noble religious figur), bahkan salah seorang rasul yang tinggi dari kalangan ulul azm.
Artinya secara sejarah umat Islam menyatukan kebesaran dan kemuliaan Jerusalem yang ada pada umat Yahudi dan umat Kristen sekaligus.
Tapi di atas dari semua itu, bagi umat Islam, hubungan itu tidak pada kebesaran sejarah semata. Juga bukan hubungan geografis, etnis, kesukuan dan ras. Bukan pula hubungan kultur dan kebangsaan. Tidak pula pada kepentingan politik dan ekonomi sempit. Tapi di atas segala-galanya adalah karena hubungan iman.
Hubungan imani (alaaqah imaniyah) ini tidak lepas pertama kali dengan nubuwah dan risalah para nabi dan rasul. Kebanggaan dan pemuliaan para nabi bagi kita tidak pada hubungan darah, ras dan kebangsaan. Tapi pada ikatan jiwa yang di dalamnya bersemayam keindahan iman.
Hubungan umat ini dengan Ibrahim dan keturunanya dari sisi Ishak juga adalah hubungan iman. Keimanan kepada Ibrahim, Ishak, Ya’qub dan keturunan mereka itulah hubungan yang mengikat umat ini.
Sehingga konsekwensinya adalah siapa saja yang memilik iman sebagaimana iman Ibrahim, Ishak, Ismail, Ya’qub, Musa, Daud, harus, Sulaeman, Yusuf, Yahya maupun Isa dari kalangan umat rasul dan nabi terakhir, Muhammad SAW, semuanya memiliki ikatan hati dengan Jerusalem. Mengingkari kemuliaan Jerusalem bagi umat ini boleh jadi pengingkaran terhadap kesucian iman kita.
Ikatan imani ini berlanjut hingga hadirnya nabi dan rasul terakhir, baginda Rasulullah SAW. Perjalanan Isra Mi’raj adalah simbolisasi ikatan iman. Perjalanan yang secara akal manusia akan lebih praktis secara teknis dari Mekah langsung ke Al-Bait al-Ma’mur (langit ketujuh) justeru diputar ke Jerusalem lalu ke atas.
Itu berarti bahwa antara Mekah dan Jerusalem, dalam iman umat ini, tidak akan pernah terpisahkan. Di sanalah Rasulullah SAW menemui semua para nabi dan rasul, bahkan menjadi imam bagi semuanya.
Kenyataan ini di kemudian hari dideklarasikan dalam sebuah hadits: “Tidak ada perjalanan yang disengaja kecuali kepada tiga masjid: Al-masjidil haram, masjidku ini (nabawi) dan masjid Al-Aqsa”.
Khalifah Umar dan Jerusalem
Kota Jerusalem dalam sejarahnya memang berkali-kali menjadi rebutan kekuasaan. Silih berganti jatuh ke kekuasaan yang berbeda-beda.
Yang menarik untuk dicermati adalah pihak mana yang tetap menjaga kemuliaan Jerusalem dan rumah suci agama-agama di dalamnya? Atau pihak mana justeru yang paling memiliki prilaku destruktif di saat menguasai Jerusalem? Jawabannya bisa didapatkan dalam catatan sejarah di mana-mana.
Yang ingin saya bahas adalah ketika Jerusalem jatuh di tangan kekuasaan Islam di bawah kepemimpinan Khalifah Umar bin Khattab (RA). Peristiwa itu terjadi sekitar tahun 637 M.
Di bawan komando Abu Ubaidah ibnu Jarrah mengalahkan tentara Roma di perang yang sengit dan dikenal dalam sejarah dengan peperangan Yarmuk. Kekalahan Roma di Yarmuk ini menjadikan Damascus juga diambil alih oleh tentara Islam.
Dari sana kemudian Abu Ubaidah melakukan pengepungan ke kota Jerusalem hingga menyerah. Tapi bertahan untuk tidak memberikan kunci kota itu kecuali kepada raja sang pemenang. Tentu yang mereka maksud adalah Umar sebagai khalifah umat saat itu.
Umar pun meminta pendapat para sahabat senior dan semua menganjurkan agar Umar berangkat ke Jerusalem untuk menerima kunci kota suci itu langsung. Beliau pun berangkat dengan seorang pria pembantunya. Mereka sepakat untuk saling bergantian menaiki onta yang membawanya ke Jerusalem dari Madinah.
Singkat cerita perjalanan semakin mendekat ke Jerusalem, dan kini tiba giliran sang pembantu itu yang naik onta. Sebenarnya sang pembantu itu ingin agar yang menaiki onta sambil memasuki perbatasan kota adalah Umar. Tujuannya biar nampak kharisma Umar sebagai penguasa. Tapi serta merta Umar menolak karena memang giliran sang pembantu (servant) itu menaiki ontanya.
Tidak ketinggalan panglima tentara Islam menjemput di perbatasan. Dan dari perbatasan itu penguasa Roma menghentangkan karpet merah sepanjang dua kilometer. Melihat pakaian Umar yang lusuh dan berdebu, sang panglima Abu Ubaidah menyarankan agar Umar mengganti pakaian dengan pakaian kebesaran yang telah disiapkan oleh penguasa Roma.
Mendengar usulan itu Umar marah dan menepuk dada Abu Ubaidah sambil berkata: “Wahai saudaraku, sungguh kita pernah terhinakan hingga Allah memuliakan kita dengan Islam. Kalau kita mencari kemuliaan selain Islam maka Allah akan menghinakan kita kembali”.
Kata-kata Umar ini didengar dan disaksikan oleh pemimpin Jerusalem Sophronius. Diapun terkagum dan tanpa kata-kata menyerahkan kunci kota suci itu ke pemimpin umat, Khalifah Umar (RA).
Toleransi Umat
Yang menarik kemudian adalah ketika mereka berada di dalam kota suci itu, Umar berjalan mengelilingi kota suci. Didapatkan bahwa lokasi masjid Al-Aqsa telah menjadi tempat pembuangan sampah. Maka beliau langsung turun tangan dan membersihkannya, diikuti oleh panglima dan tentara Muslim. Dalam sejarah pembangunan besar masjid Al-Aqsa memang dimulai oleh Umar.
Tapi yang terunik dari semua itu adalah ketika beliau diajak oleh Patriach Sophronius memasuki gereja Spulchre atau dikenal dengan gereja hari Kiamat (Kanisah al-Qiyamah). Di saat beliau berada di gereja itu tiba-tiba waktu sholat tiba. Oleh Sophronius beliau diminta untuk sholat dalam gereja itu. Tapi beliau menolak, bukan karena alasan agama. Tapi lebih kepada kekhawatiran beliau kalau umat Islam salah sangka dan mengakui gereja itu sebagai milik.
Beliau kemudian keluar dan sholat di salah satu sudut untuk sholat. Di tempat itulah di kemudian hari didirikan masjid yang disebut masjid Umar.
Perjalanan berlanjut dan beliau juga kemudian menemukan tempat di mana orang-orang Yahudi biasa beribadah. Sebelum itu masyarakat Yahudi memang telah diusir oleh penguasa Roma dari Jerusalem. Maka ketika Umar melihat rumah ibadah mereka telah penuh dengan kotoran dan sampah, Umar meminta kepada Patriach Sophronius agar membersihkan tempat itu, sekaligus Umar mendeklarasikan bahwa orang-orang Yahudi punya hak untuk kembali dan beribadah di Jerusalem.
Kedua peristiwa di atas memberikan pesan jelas dan tegas bahwa toleransi dalam Islam itu bukan isu sosial. Melainkan hal yang dijamin secara fundamental oleh agama. Inilah yang dipraktikkan oleh Rasulullah dan para pemimpin Islam yang lurus. Saya katakan lurus, karena setelah Khulafa Rasyidin ada juga pemimpin Islam yang terbuai oleh kekuasannya.
Maka Jerusalem bagi umat ini adalah kota yang suci secara imani dan juga disikapi secara iman. Dengan iman itu pulalah masyarakat Kristiani dan Yahudi bisa menikmati hidup damai, tenteram dan terjamin dalam beragama.
Dengan keadaan sekarang ini, harapan kita semoga Jerusalem bisa kembai kepada sejarah keemasannya. Sejarah di mana kekuasaan memberikan jaminan yang pasti kepada semua pihak untuk melakukan hak-hak agamanya. Dan Islam adalah agama yang memiliki jaminan itu, baik dalam ajaran sebagai “rahmatan lil-alamin” maupun dalam sejarah tinta emas kemanusiaan kita.
Tapi saya ingin menutup catatan sederhana ini dengan peringatan penting oleh Umar tadi. “Kita adalah umat yang pernah hina dan lemah, lalu Allah menguatkan dan memuliakan kita dengan Islam. Kalau kita mencari kemuliaan selain dengan agama ini Allah akan menghinakan kita” (Umar bin Khattab).
Kekhawatiran saya adalah jangan-jangan kehinaan-kehinaan kolektif yang dialami oleh umat saat ini memang karena hal di atas. Bahwa umat ini mengalami berbagai hal yang menyedihkan, bukan karena musuh yang kuat. Bukan orang lain yang punya i’tikad jahat atau berbagai makar yang dilancarkan oleh orang lain. Tapi karena umat ini sendiri yang telah mencari “keselamatan” dan “kemuliaan” jauh dari sumber kemuliaan yang sesungguhnya.
Sumber kemuliaan sejati itu adalah: “alaa innal izzata lillahi jami’a”. Bahwa segala yang dicari selain Allah, selain ridhoNya, selain ketentuannya, apapun bentuknya mengantar kepada kehinaan.
Oleh karenanya Palestina dan Jerusalem, kediaman masjid Al-Aqsa, hingga saat ini masih terjajah, bukan pertama kali karena kehebatan dan kekuatan Israel, bukan pula karena dukungan super power dunia terhadap Israel. Tapi karena umat ini yang telah kehilangan pijakan kakinya (Al-urwah al-wutsqa) yang kuat. Allah a’lam!
