KESBANG.COM,New York – Wakil Presiden M Jusuf Kalla di sela memimpin delegasi Republik Indonesia mengikuti Sidang Majelis Umum Perserikatan Bangsa-bangsa, menyempatkan mengunjungi Museum Tragedi Penyerangan Menara Kembar World Trade Center di New York, Amerika Serikat, Kamis.

“Museum ini bagian dari sejarah, bagaimana terjadinya konflik kemanusiaan yang kemudian menjadi teror, dan dengan hal yang tidak terduga. Mengalahkan segala macam perkiraan,” kata Wapres M Jusuf Kalla.

Sebelum masuk ke Museum Nasional Penyerangan 11 September, Wapres Jusuf Kalla menyaksikan dari dekat lubang yang menganga akibat reruntuhan Gedung ACT yang sekarang dibangun air mancur yang mengucur ke dalam lubang.

Wapres bersama rombongan akhirnya naik ke lantai 102 Gedung One World Centre dimana dilakukan pemutaran film berdurasi lima menit yang menceritakan tragedi 11 September.

“Jadi kenapa ini penting untuk dilihat dan diketahui? Supaya kita semua waspada karena kadang-kadang hal-hal yang besar tidak diperkirakan terjadi. Tidak kelihatan,” kata Wapres.

Pada 11 September 2001, tragedi runtuhnya Menara Kembar World Trade Center di New York terjadi hanya dalam dua jam. Peristiwa itu dikenal sebagai Tragedi 11 September.

Tragedi 11 September merupakan serangkaian serangan bunuh diri yang telah direncanakan terhadap target-target vital Pemerintah Amerika Serikat (AS) seperti Menara Kembar World Trade Center (WTC) di New York dan Gedung Pentagon di Washington DC.

Tragedi itu terjadi pada Selasa tanggal 11 September 2001 pukul 08.45 waktu setempat. Sekelompok pembajak dari militan Al Qaeda telah menyusup ke dalam empat penerbangan sipil AS dan membajak pesawat-pesawat tersebut.

Target mereka adalah bangunan-bangunan vital bagi Pemerintah AS seperti Menara Kembar World Trade Center di New York, dan Gedung Pentagon di Washington DC. Pesawat American Airlines pertama diketahui menabrakan diri menuju bagian utara Menara Kembar World Trade Center.

Dampaknya, lubang menganga dan kebakaran dahsyat terlihat dari lantai 80 Menara WTC tersebut. Ratusan warga AS tewas dalam serangan pertama tersebut, sementara ratusan lainnnya harus menunggu pertolongan karena terjebak di lantai yang lebih tinggi.

Kemudian, 18 menit setelah pesawat pertama menghantam bagian utara Menara WTC, pesawat Boeing 767 kedua milik American Airlines terlihat di langit dan menukik tajam untuk kembali menghantam Menara WTC. Hantaman kedua itu menghasilkan ledakan dahsyat yang membuat puing-puing menara berhamburan ke jalanan di bawahnya.

Berdasarkan laporan tim investigasi AS, lebih dari 3.000 jiwa tewas dalam tragedi mengerikan tersebut. Tiga tahun setelah tragedi itu terjadi, Pemimpin kelompok Al Qaeda Osama bin Laden mengklaim bertanggung jawab atas serangan 11 September. (Ant)
